Treating, Supporting & educating families for over a decade
An assessment for the newborn or infant may involve screening to review progress in meeting movement, coordination, activity, musculoskeletal or developmental milestones expected by age or stage.
For mother–baby dyads experiencing biomechanical sucking difficulties, examination may also include assessment of the suck, swallow, breathing and tongue function of the baby.
Dr Emily Jones (Osteopath) has qualified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) to further support and educate families with breastfeeding challenges. IBCLCs are recognised throughout the world as holding the premier global credential in lactation care. IBCLC lactation consultants are knowledgeable about up-to-date evidence-based practices, experienced in complex breastfeeding issues, sensitive to the needs of both mothers and children, and are ethical in their practice.
For breast (and bottle) feeding issues, we offer a range of clinical services. This may include developmentally appropriate manual therapy treatments for both mother and baby, advice on breastfeeding positioning and attachment.
Education is provided about how to position or assist your baby in movement and activities. This helps promote postural stability and musculoskeletal developmental milestones.
To ensure you and your child get the best care, we work in association with other health professionals. These include lactation consultants, medical practitioners, paediatricians, maternal and child health nurses, paediatric dentists and speech pathologists. This may include referral to other health professionals in helping supporting mother and baby.
